Sat, 23rd Apr 2011  Thiruvananthapuram: Doctors of a government hospital in Alleppey district of Kerala have been accused of undertaking 21 caesarean operations in just two days. The two gynaecologists allegedly operated in a hurry on Wednesday and Thursday as the coming three days were government holidays.
Some of the women admitted in the hospital claim that their date of delivery was scheduled for only next week but was advanced by the doctors.
The incident triggered protest by the Communist party of India-Marxist's youth wing.
The Collector has asked the District Medical Officer to submit a detailed report on the entire incident after the medical superintendent of the hospital confirmed that over 20 surgeries were done.
The state government has also constituted a special committee to look into the matter
"There are hardly any maternity cases in Cherthala but in past four years we have come across many caesarean cases in this place. We have taken the matter seriously and an expert committee has been formed to investigate the truth," said Kerala Health Minister PK Sreemathi.  |
